I got a friend to watch the entire series based on showing him that moment.  That right there is the character.  There might be other ways to do it, but fuck it, he's busting right through.

That's a good point, and one that I hadn't thought of.  When I started watching Justified (shortly before season 2 began), I had no idea that Walton Goggins was on it.  When he showed up in the pilot my wife (who watched all of the Shield about a year after I did) and both shouted "Shane!" and were super excited.
