It was certainly abrupt (at least as far as Melfi's recognition and actions), but I agree with you that it's something that has been building for quite a while.  As is noted above, it really often takes being confronted by one's friends / colleagues before you'll do something that you really have known in your heart…

That does make sense, but I don't want it to be true.  Clay looked so defeated in the end.  And, despite everything that he's done, I did genuinely feel bad for him.  He was ready to pack it all up, leave all of this behind and just live out the rest of his life away from this.  Not that he deserves to, but pinning…

I've honestly had enough of KIrkman on the show.  She was great for a long time, but her being gone was fantastic.  Rotating the guests was refreshing, and should happen again in the future.  PFT's conversations with Tom Lennon and Aukerman were fantastic.
