I like to think of him as having been born with that voice. I imagine him waking up at five and his mom asking him "Isaac, honey, you want some Cap'n Crunch?" and Isaac replying, "Nawww Baby…but I will have some of your sweet, sweet Cocoa Puffs."

Superfly is more political and more darkly funky (with that guitar!) and as such wins by a nose for me.

I agree, though Mayfield is one of the greatest guitarists of all time - regardless of genre.

He does two other Bacharach/David songs on Black Moses - "(They Long to Be) Close to You" and "Never Fall In Love Again" - that are nearly as good.

Can't like this enough. I love Shaft and Hot Buttered Soul but Black Moses is his true classic. Maybe the greatest soul album ever made. "Never Can Say Goodbye," "Nothing Takes the Place of You," "Never Gonna Give You Up" the list of classic songs on that album is very long.

As in: "Ole jive turkey ain't got no sense no how."
