Probably they merely had a problematic condition, like fishskin.

He's lithe as a cat!
My (whispers) looks like a (whispers) except with its shell off.
"Man, that's dumber than a comment on a Yahoo! News story."
I was just posting about this too— I think he's extraordinarily good at conveying what the moment should feel like to his actors, and at coaching their instincts to the fore. I also think that actors trust him in ways that they might not another director, maybe because he's so much on their emotional wavelength and…
I think it's often overlooked what a great "actor's director" Lynch is. He draws performances out of people of an intensity that no one else seems able to. He's kind of like Bergman in that regard.
I liked Lost in Translation a lot, and found Marie Antoinette reasonably enjoyable. I never watched The Godfather III and honestly couldn't care less about it— I took it for granted it would be terrible.
"I’m not sure yet what to make of an enigmatic final scene featuring a cameo appearance by Charlotte Rampling, but I look forward to ruminating about it for some time to come."
Lucas/Wiseau.
They'll be picking olives out of themselves for weeks.
I know Cannes and he were on the outs last year, but have they actually ruled out including his films going forward?
Dammit, I knew I should have put a "do" on the end of that sentence. Also it's possible that hippos just step on people rather than eat them. But in any case, hippos kill— let's not forget that.
Hey, they still eat more people than sharks.
Whatever one might think of Baumbach's movies, White's distaste seems pretty personal. In one write-up he seemed to suggest that Baumbach's mother should have had an abortion. Since White and said mother used to work at the same paper, I'm guessing there's more of a story here.
It's part of the film's coded message about the moon landing.
Let's just say it raises a credibility issue.
I'm pretty sure Lenny Bruce did telephone bits as well— at least many of his bits were the sort of one-sided conversations that Newhart and Berman did, though obviously in a quite different vein.
I've actually tried to find that as well on YouTube or the like. He does seem to be a fascinating character.
@avclub-dd81450c8861a32004d657e2b04f386d:disqus : See, that's what I'm thinking too. All trailers look like shit to me. This looks no worse than the rest and more interesting than some.
Accusing each other of stealing bits is standard stand-up behavior. Berman was a gifted performer, but he was also a ferociously neurotic one who routinely sabotaged his own career.
