The biggest surprise for me in this episode was that it didn't turn out at the end that Colonel Kuhn was Amanda Peet's mother. All their interactions felt like mother-daughter interactions to me.
Of course, if Amanda Peet is recurring, maybe it will turn out eventually that my instincts are right.

The casting spoiler in PoI was more forgivable for two reasons.
One, I've seen the 'spoilery' actor completely wasted in some roles in the past, so I was able to accept that he will only appear in a couple of scenes. And two, it's a necessary trade-off. They wanted a good actor for a role that is going to be a recurring

Much as I love Crosby, having Kaldrick leave Destiny to work with him would make me really sad.

I agree. At the moment, I think we can look at Grimm like the first season of Angel or Supernatural. Both of which were mostly stand-alones used to create a sense of the world.
I'm willing to give the show a season of this, but I do hope we eventually get some more serialized elements. (Again, like Supernatural, Angel

Okay, since there probably won't be many more chances to discuss this show in the future, and since I don't think I saw anyone mentioning this in the comments for the previous episode, I will mention here something that bothered me about this show since the pilot.
So, humanity is living in a completely fucked up world,

But he's Kaiden/Carth. Kaiden/Carth can't be evilly creepy.

I actually think Kristina's backstory was referenced at some point in the first season. At some point where Haddie complained about Adam, Kristina said someting about how great Adam is with her, in a way that made it seem like Kristina herself had experience with a much worse dad.
I don't rememer the exact line, but

Spoilers for the series Angel
Jax better be careful, or the season finale will end with Jimmy's russian contact kidnapping Abel to a hell dimension.

Steve Harris, that is.

Ew, no, that would make Vince and Jess cousins (Since Jess' dad is Stever Harris, Wood's brother).
