Man, taking an old show name, and putting "new" in front of it was such a 70s thing (see "The New Dick Van Dyke Show.") In retrospect, it stamps your show as a retread almost from the get-go.

It's kind of sad that two of Asner's MTM co-stars have regular network gigs in their 80s (Leachman and White), but his shows keep bombing. Seems like he keeps busy, though, as much as he complains.

A fine episode - I wouldn't call it the funniest, but it was very honest as far as showing the not-so-lovable side of these characters. (Murray was a particular dick in it.)

I think "sophisticated" is another good word. The other word that strikes me is "adult." There is another episode where Ted is not having sex with Georgette, and there is a scene with Ted and Lou in a waiting room — two middle-aged guys, fumbling through a conversation about a very sensitive topic. Culture has since

Mary Tyler Moore is one of my favorite shows, too. Watching the second half of this on youtube, while there is not a lot of Ted in this episode, I'm surprised no one mentioned that Ted Knight (always an MVP) has a strong moment, with the "I was right and you were wrong" thing.

The early seasons of MTM have their moments, but the show was as much as pleasant as it was funny. People I've urged to watch it on Hulu, which only has the first three seasons, are usually not that blown away (until they get to the third season, which has some amazing episodes.) The later seasons, with the big laughs

The Mary-Rhoda dynamic was fine. The Mary-Rhoda-Phyllis dynamic, particularly the Phyllis-Rhoda insult duels, was a little overplayed. As great as Cloris Leachman could be, Betty White created a far funnier character. If you watch the clip when they meet the Little Sisters, Betty White gets laughs just walking in the

It was kind of a mix. They had some pretty big people on in those days, people like Betty White and Jimmie Walker, who were on big hit series. For Dawson, Sommers, etc., it worked out really well, giving them second careers.

Geez. You left out Patti Deutsch, the original alterna-chick. Only went for laughs, never cared about matching, totally awesome every time, used to be in doing a blank stare in the camera during the opening.

Apologies if someone has asked this before, but how might someone watch "The Thick of It"? It's not on Netflix.

Yeah, it is/was a fun and cool show,  weirdly compelling and addictive. I am not a big fan of remakes, but "Dark Shadows" is the kind of show that cries out for one, as it was often flawed and can seem pretty dated. A smart updating would be great. But this doesn't seem like it. It's kind of ironic that for all the
