I am assume there are other sources now for aspiring ball players to learn about popping greenies and beaver shooting.

One of the (valid) complaints against the practice is that Google is suspiciously bad at cataloging the metadata for the books it scans, so a lot of books under copyright were listed as being public domain. There's not a lot of incentive for them to look for copyright holders if they can claim something is an orphan

I remember that too, and I think that was kind of the problem: it seemed that the "realism" they injected was a bunch of nitpicky things that had obviously been bugging the writers for a long time. Like the fast guy on DP7 had to eat huge meals to make up the calories he burned, and they might have said something

Oh yeah, MST3K, now THERE'S a Thanksgiving programming tradition I remember fondly!

Oh Hell just do Garfield again.

Quite the opposite, from what I understand: roseanne had complete creative control in the last season.

Both Bush and Palin benefited from exceedingly low expectations when it came to debates: as a friend of mine put it, "I thought you were supposed to win debates, not just beat the spread!"

Just like in my all-time holiday classic, "Jingle All de Vay!"

Garth in Wayne's World IIRC.

I agree to a point, but those elements you describe are much truer of the first few years (except for Jon and Liz getting together, of course) than what it eventually became. The streamlining of the strip was a big part of the "Jim Davis sold out" complaint.

I think there's an age range where stuff like that doesn't scare kids: they just like the bright colors. Then they start to get scared because they can understand what's going on. I'm not surprised, mine have gone through the same thing.

Great movie, and (absent an official release) the youtube cut is a godsend. Apparently a lot of people worked on it that went on to bigger things, like David Fincher and Henry Selick.

I know a purple-haired cyclops whose schedule opened up recently.

Thanks, (Michelle) Obama!

Which is confusing since the book Burn, Witch, Burn! was filmed as The Devil-Doll.

I'm with you. It couldn't get much worse than last night, anyway.

Hey, I just watched Torture Garden on YouTube because I heard someone in it is killed by a possessed grand piano. Fun movie with a great cast: Jack Palance, Burgess Meredith, and Peter Cushing.

Yes, the preview looked absolutely terrible, and then I never heard any more about it, indeed forgetting the title completely. At least I know I didn't totally imagine it.

"Pleasant taste, some monsterism."
