I was never quite sure whether Cavendish wasn't imagining a lot of his story. Like, maybe he had actually gone nuts and that's why he was in the home. And the manner in which his story resolves so perfectly is almost more like a dream sequence. Additionally this would make it possible for it to take place around 2030…
