Useful degrees are all alike; every useless degree is useless in its own way.

Since I'm of the opinion that McClane saw Hans in the elevator earlier (see my other comment on this thread), I don't think McClane's glace at the board is meant to test whether Hans is lying - he knows he's lying. It's meant to test his intelligence; will he make up a random name, or does he know the name of an…
I think it's meant to show that Hans is clever. He didn't just pick a name out of thin air, he used the name of a real employee.
Or because HE SEES HIM IN THE ELEVATOR, earlier in the film. Hans/Rickman stands in the elevator and reads the message: "Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho." Cut to a shot of McClane/Willis on top of the elevator, writing names on his arm. We even see a shot down through the elevator from McClane's POV. I'll…
"National History Museum"? For shame, AVC.
Dude. Sunrise is incredibly beautiful. Fuck your film minor, but watch Sunrise.
She was pretty slash-happy in Hard Candy, too. If they like the "darker, R-rated" Wolverine, that could be a good direction for the franchise to go in.
The fuck do you hang out that Church and Chambers is your go-to late night slice joint? Are they holding raves at the Tweed Courthouse or something?
Keste, on Bleecker across from John's. They do the more upscale-style, Neapolitan pizza but damn is it good.
Well shucks, now I'm hoist on my own pedantry. This is what I get for dozing off during horse-racing class. Had no clue! Makes me wonder whether "on track" isn't originally a bastardization of "untracked," and the idiom is just going around in (five-furlong) circles.
I feel like you deliberately omit the answers from these posts to make me feel bad when I can't think of the answer. It's cruel, I tell ya.
God I hope she has a brother named Hugh.
It might say more about him than he realizes. In order for her to win the game, she has to get her trivia questions right. Doug deliberately getting his wrong would not make any difference in getting her to win faster, and if he was indeed leading, it's likely that deliberately getting questions wrong would have…
Yikes, @Jay S. The idiom is "on track." Lisa got "on track" early in DJ. (I know, I know, it's pedantry, but "untracked" is like nails on a chalkboard to me.)
I just saw him in the XXX sequel (meh) on Thursday night. He looks exactly the same as he did in 1993. He's also (unsurprisingly) the only person in the movie whose fighting looks remotely credible.
If you're enjoying this series, be sure to check out Tom's old feature on Deadspin, The Netflix Action Movie Canon:
Oh man, that comment thread takes me back. Lobsters1! Phel! Lexicondevil!! Those sure were the good old days.
Did you happen to see "Beyond The Lighted Stage" as well? I feel like the Venn diagram of people who have seen BTLS and people who have seen Time Stand Still must consist largely of overlap, but I've yet to see anyone comment on what the new doc covers that the previous one didn't. I love Rush so I'll probably end…
I don't listen to nearly enough music to claim any kind of comprehensive
list, and a bunch of my favorites from this year have already been
mentioned, but here's a few I don't think anyone listed:
Shit, I had no idea there was a new Emma Ruth Rundle album. And it's apparently good! Going into the Spotify queue post-haste.
