Hardly know'er!
Hardly know'er!
Yeah this is a pretty bizarre take for someone who has apparently devoted so much time to thinking about cinema. Every art form has stylistic techniques and examples of artists (and works for art) that foreground those techniques, even at the expense of representation or narrative or other elements of art. Long…
I love their "Fields" album.
New Meshuggah is always good news.
Yes, Pallbearer is great. If you're into the female-fronted stuff, check out Witch Mountain (definitely metal) and Emma Ruth Rundle (not as metal). And if you like Julien Baker, try the self-titled album from SOAK. Mit freundlchen grüßen!
Hey, thanks for all those recs. I love Elder, so that's definitely my sweet spot. Black metal is not usually my cup of tea; I prefer melodic vocals and riffs to howling and tremelo-picking. But doom-oriented black metal might do it for me, if the riffs are there; I've enjoyed stuff like Celeste before, when they…
So what metal are we listening to lately? The new Blood Ceremony album was a bit of a let-down for me, but I'm moderately consoled to have discovered the knock-off band Electric Citizen. "Sateen" doesn't reach the heights of Living With The Ancients or The Eldritch Dark, but it's an enjoyable little album.
I'm playing a Curse of Strahd campaign now, and I'm really struggling to come up with reasons why my character wouldn't just burn this whole fucking forest to the ground. Right now the best I've got is "I'm a drow, I need the shade."
Since @officerserpico:disqus already hooked you up with some suggestions from the older material, here's the best b-sides since Hail to To Thief, in my humble opinion:
Yeah I don't really know what "MILF" is supposed to represent. "Older than a teenager"? Whenever PornHub or whoever publishes their list of the most popular search terms by state, "MILF" is popular everywhere, and I don't understand what distinguishes it from any other pornography, or what it is about those titles…
Shopping centre? I hardly know're!
Can we call Red Cliff a "videogame film"? Because Red Cliff was solid.
Fuck Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, which killed my friend Paul.
I read Adam Hochschild's "To End All War" - an account of the First World War through the lens of pacifism - some years ago. Hochschild is a fantastic writer and researcher; the quotations he finds are absolutely killer. He did a great job of showing how insane and futile the war was (not that it's all that…
That article is called "The Lonely Death of George Bell":
That documentary is called "A Certain Kind of Death":
Who wrote "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima"?
For my money, that well-woman's horror about eating her friends is the darkest joke of the season, topping the "I always hate when that happens" line from a few episodes before. And her line about starting a charity that goes around the country throwing roast beef sandwiches into wells just about killed me.
It's a God, God, God, God Particle
