Since 2006, but I never hung out in Greenpoint much. And in fairness, I am no regular concert-goer, but I certainly know Irving Hall, so I was expecting something of comparable size for the Brooklyn Venue (Music Hall of Williamsburg, perhaps?)

Heh. I live in Brooklyn, so was surprised to see I didn't recognize the venue name "Warsaw." "Where the heck is Warsaw?" I thought to myself. Then "it's Polish, it must be in Greenpoint." And wouldn't you know it…

I read that the remake was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the original enough that I might actually check it out.

I don't want to be the kind of pedant who only responds to a long post with a minor correction, but "toe-headed ginger" is wrong on a couple of levels. It's commonly spelled "tow-headed" - a "toe-headed" child would be unfortunate indeed - but more importantly, "tow-headed" means "very fair and blond," which is not

Paths of Glory is such a great film. It's the first "real" Kubrick movie, IMO - you can see his obsession with the conflict between rigid codes and messy realities emerging for the first time, and shooting in the trenches obliged him to rely on tracking shots for camera movement, which led to a career-spanning

***HUGE THE FALL SEASON 2 SPOILERS***

Jacob's Ladder remains my #1 scariest film of all time. Pushes all my personal buttons; fear of hospitals, fear of losing my grip on reality… God, that "dream on" scene makes my skin absolutely crawl.

I assume every Boston fan who thinks poor Tom Brady and the Patriots are getting shafted just because they're successful is similarly sympathetic to A-Rod.

"Bitches leave" is from Robocop. I wonder if the xXx line was intentionally similar, or just evidence for the degree to which women are still viewed as disposable objects?

Wait, the Dissolve fired Nathan Rabin? Is there a link for this?

If you're taking a leak in Trinity and you want to strike a blow for civil rights, look up Fernando Wood. He was a big Copperhead and he's buried there.

Chiming in to agree that Audrey could sing. She's no Julie Andrews, but she could hold a note just fine. (She's also my all-time crush, so I may be unduly sensitive to criticism of her.)

Doh. I also got my BA in English. I promise I'm better at proofreading my emails than I am at proofreading my comments.

In other news:

Does every teacher know that, though? I certainly know Reagan is the 40th president, but I'll be damned if I can tell you why, other than that he's the first president I can remember (1977 represent).

Missing from your assessment of Seattle's scandals was the idea - I'm not sure if this was ever confirmed by anyone on the team, but it was "common knowledge" at the time - that the Seahawks defense would commit pass interference on every play, with the assumption that the refs wouldn't want to call a penalty on every

If you're taking requests for this feature, I'd love to read something about Kubrick. His symmetrical compositions have always floored me, but I've also always thought there was something up with the color schemes in Eyes Wide Shut that I wasn't really getting, so if you have anything to say there, I'd be interested

Agreed. The first season didn't do the greatest job of integrating its narrative threads, but at least it established them, and both the tension of the killer stalking his victims and the thematic treatment of women's abuse at the hands of men were excellent.
