I think I read the first Wheel of Time book when it came out… when I was in fifth grade… in 1988. I didn't pick up the second one, and I can't say I'm terribly sorry I'm not still waiting for it to finish.

I was 14 too, at least until October. Listened to a lot of grunge and prog rock. Wore a lot of denim. Read a lot of fantasy, horror, and sci-fi. Did a lot of shoplifting. Ah youth…

I'm with you. And one of them was for The Walking Dead, which I don't even watch anymore.

Fair enough. I guess by the time 12 Monkeys came out he'd done Interview with the Vampire, Legends of the Fall, and Seven, which would have put him on a lot more people's radars.
Well it's not an action-packed movie, and I don't want to suggest that better subtitles could completely change your opinion of it, but I really enjoyed it the first time I saw it, such that I rented it again promptly when I got back to the States, and I remember being very disappointed in the differences between the…

That could be, Scrawler. The only things I can say for certain are: she is the same woman from the future, and the "insurance" line clearly indicates that she's a backup for Willis. But what exactly she's meant to achieve, who knows.

I wouldn't say it's in my top 10 of all time, but I have a great affection for it, first as a genuinely scary movie (that pushes my particular buttons), but also for the puzzle-box nature of it; those movies have always appealed to me, hence my love for 12 Monkeys, Memento, and their ilk.
I've always had a fear of hospitals - The Twilight Zone's "Room for one more, honey" line scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid - and Jacob's Ladder did not help. Not one bit.
Was True Romance not an eye-opener? He's only a bit part in that movie, for sure, and I suppose "stoner" isn't the most difficult role to play, but it seemed like a major change from his pretty-boy role in Thelma and Louise, which as far as I know is the only thing I'd seen him in to that point.
The first time I saw "Jacob's Ladder" I was watching it on video with some friends, joking around and generally not paying attention. When the end of the movie came, we had no idea what was going on. The next day I rewatched it alone and it scared the crap out of me. Great movie, but you do have to pay attention.
They sent her back in time to stop the plague since Willis failed. Hence her like about being in "insurance."
