Interesting that Pepe Le Moko comes off as a big douche in that version. I watched the original pretty recently, which I thought was pretty great, and he comes off as a charming rogue.

I think Barcelona is a little bit smarter about how it uses the visuals. For example, the sequence in the hospital where we see him fantasising about Montserrat when he hears that there is a woman who wants to talk to him and we see a shot much like the one in the club when he decides he loves her. On the movie front I watched All About Eve and Barcelona. I was disappointed by All About Eve, largely because Mankiewicz is a pretty boring director. Talented writer, but the movie was uninteresting to look at and some of the performances were a little frustrating (Bette Davis for one). I quite liked the ending of

I just don't know if he was the right composer for the job. I really liked his score for Local Hero, but I think a John Williams/Alan Silvestri score probably would have been stronger.

For me, the majority of the American TV season lines up with the university break (mid-November to late-February/early-March). It's very convenient.

I think in general Lynch has a great love for the 1950's aesthetic. Interestingly, the use of score in his films is actually quite similar to the classic Hollywood style (almost constant underscoring with a few easily identifiable themes) despite Badalamenti's more modern style.

Today I wrapped up most of my first year of university, barring one course I’m taking over the next month to speed up my double degree, and this will probably result in longer posts.

I've been watching some late-season Seinfeld episodes lately, and you can definitely see the links between the Schaffer-Berg-Mandel writing style in those episodes and the writing style of The League.
