The Crusaders were definitely on form for that match (at least their defence in the final 10-15 minutes was), though Clarke shouldn't have made so much difference to the line-out. I saw the scorecard for the Black Caps game, choosing to sleep through it, and very confident I made the right call on that one.

Really? I re-watched it pretty recently, and for me the only thing that didn't hold up was the Goblin suit.

I don't think Barton Fink is quite as out there as people say it is. To me, the plot made a lot of sense (except when it didn't, but I just sort of accepted those parts). Still one of my favourite movies, and when me and my brother were making a joint top 20 we had quite a big debate on Miller's Crossing vs. Barton…

This weekend on the movie front I watched Metropolitan, Stavisky and The Spirit of the Beehive. Metropolitan was really good, and eerily close to the sort of movie I might make as a first feature (I even had a draft idea which involved "With Cat-like Tread" in the soundtrack). I especially liked the approach to the…

About halfway through the episode I started thinking about how hilarious it would be to hear Melissa Leo sing "The Ladies who Lunch." It doesn't really matter if she can sing or not.

If your favourite episode is The Ski Lodge, I just watched it and thought it was fantastic.

I think that they probably will play better, but the pool seems very tough and I don't know if Vettori, McCullum and Taylor are enough to put us over the top.

I did this recently at the university film society. They played Santo and the Wax Museum, which is one of the most incompetent films I have ever seen. It didn't quite work as well as I would have thought, the two main problems being that you need someone who is really good at it to help start things off, and the…

Chinatown is my favourite film, so I'm glad you liked it. What's interesting is that Polanski's version of Noir aesthetic actually doesn't have a ton in common with the more traditional aesthetic.

How does the pacing play to you? When I read it, I read it the whole way through in one go so the pace seemed a touch rushed. Agreed that the world-building is fantastic, though it isn't exactly a world I would be at home in (not being alive in the '80s causes problems if financial success can be assured by obsessive…
