It's not just that it's a good song, it's also an extremely well thought-out number as a whole. Wilder may not have a great voice, but he really sells the song as an actor.

Honestly, I find Penny obnoxious and annoying in the show as well.

When you re-started, did you start from the beginning? I ended up about 200 pages through before other, less-time consuming things got in the way and want to finish it at some point. It is an extremely compelling read, but I don't know if I have a novel-readers patience to sit down and finish it.

Some of the songs from Commentary are actually better than the songs from Dr. Horrible. For example, I'm better than Neil.

I watched Rififi, which was spell-binding in the heist sequence but a little bit less so in the rest of the movie. I think that the problem with such a brilliant set-piece is that the rest of the movie is so likely to pale by comparison, though not too much in this case.

The Arch-Deacon only gets better as a supporting character as well. The stuff with him at the end of season 2 is both funny and full of low-key drama.

Now let me tell you something, Mr. Sucker.

It's not quite as good as Cherbourg on the whole, though some individual sequences are absolutely amazing. The reason Cherbourg is so great is because it is such an effectively told story, whereas Rochefort is more of an MGM homage with stunning sequences but a poorly developed story.

I would say Schubert string quartets (Death and the Maiden) and symphonies as well as Berlioz symphonic works (Symphonie Fantastique, Harold in Italy), but this isn't really my era (or region) of expertise for classical music. For something similar from a slightly later era, Richard Strauss (Alpine Symphony, Don Juan)…

Did you find the editing in Out of the Past a little weird? It would be in my top three noirs, because I love the story, visuals and acting, but somehow I just couldn't get past what to me seemed like awkward editing.
