"You know, kids, I’m sure we’d all like to remember actor Dirk Richter for his portrayal of Radioactive Man, and not the sordid details of his final years, so let’s keep the questions tasteful, okay?”

This article loses points for not mentioning that after "Hogan's Heroes" ended, its set was used for the filming of the Nazisploitation classic "Ilsa: She-Wolf of the S.S."

Well, his two "Withnail" co-stars got to play the Doctor, at least…

I get the impression that every Australian film that gets good reviews and doesn't bomb at home is touted as something that will relaunch the Australian film industry.

I'm guessing the future of The IT Crowd itself  is looking bleak, what with O'Dowd and Ayoade breaking into films. I think Graham Linehan said it's tough working out a schedule for when everyone's available.

I recommend Robert Sellers' book about Handmade Films, Very Naughty Boys (a.k.a. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life), mainly on the strength of the chapter detailing the torturous production of Shanghai Surprise. The interview material with Richard Griffiths is priceless. It includes such niceness as "[Sean

I remember on a previous Stephanie Meyer discussion around here, someone pointed out the hilariously obvious Mary Sue-ism in the lead character's name (Stephanie Meyer —-> Mephanie Steyer —-> Melanie Stryder)

The legendary incident which involved Murray and Chevy throwing punches and having to be pulled off each other, with Murray foaming at the mouth and yelling "Fucking Chevy! MEDIUM TALENT!"

…and as much as Ramis can be credited for making Aykroyd's "Ghostbusters" script workable, John Landis can be credited for making Ramis/Miller/Kenney's "Animal House" script workable. I don't know if Landis himself performed an uncredited re-write, or just supervised the screenwriters to make changes, but I don't

I had a yen to see "Caddyshack II" when I was a kid because, in November 1990, I taped "The Empire Strikes Back" off TV and watched the hell out of it, and one of the commercial breaks had an advertisement for the [Australian] TV premiere of "Caddyshack II," and when I was 8 years old, it looked fucking hilarious.

I think "Caddyshack II" only came about as a vehicle for Rodney Dangerfield. Once he quit, there was no reason for the movie to proceed…but it did. It's certainly the low point of Dan Aykroyd's career - he delivers what could well be the worst performance in motion picture history in that one.

I read in some Monty Python book that, after "European Vacation," Eric Idle and Chevy Chase came up with the idea for an "Australian Vacation" movie, but the screenplay fell through because they couldn't think up of enough good gags. Which, I suppose, either says something about Eric Idle and Chevy Chase, or about

The twisted brain-wrong of a one-off man-mental!

So, shouldn't "Caddyshack II" count as a demerit, seeing as how Harold Ramis co-wrote it? (maybe since he didn't really want to do it, and he tried to take his name off it, he gets a pass…)
