RotLD is the movie that made me realise how awesome Clu Gulager is. (Prior to seeing that film for the first time, I'd only known him has the hard-ass dad in "A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2").

Out of this film's many virtues, one I'd like to mention is how awesomely it treats its middle-aged cast. The adult characters in most other youth-oriented trashy horror films of that era tend to be bland non-entities or one-note assholes, but in RotLD, Clu Gulager, James Karen, and Don Calfa are vital to the story…

"Fucking Australia Day" is right. About the most patriotic thing I've done on 26 January was watching the Ozploitation classic "Turkey Shoot."

"Long Weekend" has one of the most awesome yet simultaneously demoralising endings ever.

I think Tarantino oversold some of the Ozploitation films he talked about in "Not Quite Hollywood." I love that he loves Aussie movies, but "Next of Kin" and "Dead End Drive-In" ain't that good. "Long Weekend," "Turkey Shoot," and "Fair Game" are terrific though.
