I just don't have the time to re-watch every episode of Trek but I do see your point about the serialized nature of DS9 suffering somewhat from cherry-picking the best episodes. Thankfully I've seen every episode at least once already so I should be able to fill in the blanks.

What a pissy review
Cowboys and Aliens is actually a lot of fun. I went in with low expectations and had a blast watching it. C&A definitely satisfied my hunger for a decent western and my aliens-invade-earth lust.
