Seriously, it's almost purely a meme, the idea that seasons 4 and 5 were somehow much, much worse than the others. I have no idea at all where this idea comes from. The romantic stuff with Jack was tedious but it had some great moments and the deepening of the Jenna and Tracy bits made up for it IMO.

I picture him having a very Foster Wallace-esque relationship with the whole cruise experience. Really seems like the kind of thing that'd drive him bananas. But then maybe it'll give him material.

Yeah. They won't give you shit for Goofy. It's Minnie Mouse or nothing.

And he was very small.

Male condescension specifically about something the woman already knows or knows better about. Which happens to us kind of a lot.

It's weird how widely it caught on. It's seriously just terrible. Shades of anal rape terrible.

While I agree that the word "mansplaining" is irritating, it's not the same thing as being condescending and we definitely need a word for that particular phenomenon.

Not unless there's a noticeable discrepancy between the quality of jokes and the framework they're set in.

The more I think about this episode without thinking of the jokes, the less I like it. Bourdain didn't work for me (never does), the plot beats were waaaay too similar to Skytanic, and I dunno if the fake reality show works for me. But ignoring all that, the individual gags and littler situations (Pam and the fish,

Time to prepare the big bowl of spiderwebs.

I was wondering where I'd heard that name before…huh.

There was no forgetting that he was really Anthony Bourdain in a sound booth. My immersion was ruined all episode. Didn't care, because it was one of the funniest anyway. Malory and that fish…

We misjudged you, Lobsters.

It's OK, any number of my classmates probably first encountered GG Allin via a women's and gender studies department lecture a couple years ago. It was a weird combination of mind blowing and depressing. Also kind of an outre choice for a women's college. Attendance was, of course, poor.

Some hair, a frozen head and assorted bones.

If you don't find any of them sympathetic in bits and pieces, you're probably a much better and more mature person than the rest of us. And the extended adolescence thing is fun, I find, because it lowers the stakes and makes everything they do feel ridiculous and inconsequential and kinda breezy. When I want to watch

Sell WW box set, use proceeds to re-buy Larry Sanders?

And it JUST went off being on Netflix streaming (while I was in the middle of a marathon) so the best time for a revival may have passed :/

Also a 6 hour loop of him saying "Tough titty"

It's pretty delicious. Grapefruit juice is just a really good mixer, I find.
