I just never felt invested in Riley and the Initiative. While Adam was a decent villian, everything leading up it was beige. There are some fun and stand-out episodes in the 4th season (Restless, Hush, Something Blue, the body swap), and I think what they have in common is a lack of Riley/Initiative.

As far as I can tell, looks aren't always an indicator of popularity in high school. I know there were plenty of pretty drama nerds and band geeks, but in my high school it had more to do with where you grew up and what kind of car you drove. Buffy may be hot, but she's also been labeled as a "weirdo."
