You totally nailed it here! Yes, some people like the weird shit you can't stand. Yes, some people can't stand the weird shit you like.
I do think hipsters are huge in this, and I don't think they curry any favor. There is a large portion of any audience that is blindly championing things because they fit their agenda,

Great point- classic issue with using Indie as a genre. I do think we're all guilty of that sort of thing too, where most comics readers would take Indie to mean meandering or ugly or whatever instead of being about its finances.

I think they're both correct. There's a lot of pompous self-important work AND a lot of great stuff that may not fit whatever conventional molds people propagate as a culture.
It's like punk rock. Is it good to learn your instruments, attain technical prowess, and imbue your work with depth and layers of craft? Sure.

Didn't get to read Omega Men yet, but glad there's still hope!
Had the same feeling about Grayson- it was good, sweet ending, etc. but I still wish the same team had finished it for some reason. But there was at least a lot of old thread-knotting- I couldn't believe Tiger at the end.

That'll do it! There has to be some variant of Stockholm Syndrome related to this phenomenon, where we spend our adult lives building monuments to our childhood traumas.
Great work! Stoked to check it out when I get home this evening.

You've reminded me today that I never went back and played KQ3 or Codename:Iceman after being unable to get them to run in the late 90s! Time to remedy that!
Also I never minded the checking tires or other procedural quirks in Police Quest, but I was unable to progress past the damn gun calibration in PQ2 for about a

What was the worst staircase that sticks out in your mind? I remember tripping or falling a lot on the Volcano at Ortega on Space Quest 3, or the Whale in Kings Quest 4. None of them pissed me off like that damn space cruiser sequence in Space Quest 1!

Ha his calls had me on the edge of my seat.
This would make a great reality/sports show for nerds- culling great horde collections of pop-culture stuff, color commentary arguing about the choices.
I think I got rid of Louden Up Now but I still have all the 12" singles from that record.

Cars really are the final frontier use-case for folks our age! When those go..
I swore I would never drive a car without a cassette player. Now all those mixtapes sit next to a boombox, unrocked.

SO STOKED on this feature Modell! My AV Club cherry burst when Noel was around J or so in Popless so I'm stoked to see that sort of personal music writing making a return.
I just put my milk crates full of CDs up on some garage shelving this last weekend and wondered when I'll get the stones to reckon with and/or cull.

They're always getting grouped together for some reason! It's almost as if they were in some sort of group..

This would work perfectly as VO in a Godard flick.

Here Here! I'm a Woody apologist but man that movie is B-Land!

Looking forward to watching this sometime- thanks for doing this guys.

It really capped them and that era off, especially after So Long and Thanks. I really liked Pump Up the Valuum a lot as well but that period will always be the peak/apex for me.

I don't know if I overall groaned or giggled, but I did appreciate the wordplay there.

Upvoted for Madballs #1. Tell me it's a new series??
Not quite the same era, but I've been enjoying some Ren and Stimpy comics I found in the cheapo bin a few weeks back.

I have that with music all the time: some years I'm up to my ears and constantly finding new things and liking things, other years it all makes me want to throw up and I couldn't care less what's going on in the world. I say just ride the waves as they come and don't try to force the funk if it's not working for you.

I know lots of bands get this, but RFTC is still the loudest band I've ever seen.

The holy trinity of noise rock frontmen, amen.
