Yes Yes and YES! Haven't been this excited for a book series since the original 33-1/3 project was announced!
Earthbound is a perfect choice for this series- very much the In the Aeroplane Over the Sea of the video game world. I was actually doing a playthough until I started FFIX a few weeks back.
Drummers are often under-appreciated, but especially in mechanically-inclined groups..it's ironic given how much the melody relies on their work as time-keepers and scene-setters. I'm sure the boys in Devo appreciated his role!
Different genre but similarly metronomic style- Derek from the Meat Puppets. Up on the Sun…
I concur. Their early stuff lives and dies by its herky/jerky rhythms, and their later stuff all relies on his constant rhythm. It's a less Beautiful World today..
I'm with you Pixie. I tried this on Spotify earlier in the week and was expecting it to be more modern (read:dubstep) or some sort of hyper-rave crossover like Boys Noize or Simian.
It's not bad, just not great either. Always astounding..
Also- I really need to check out some Fassbinder!
I'm realizing the same thing! Pretty sure I've seen most of his work from every other decade, but it's been tough to sit down for a nice evening of Scenes from a Marriage..
I think my favorite Bergman run is still his early 60's trilogy. He dials back a little from Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries, but he's still…
Funny that Alvy comes up- I actually fell asleep to Annie Hall last night!
I'd never realized he shows up late to Bergman's Face to Face. Also never realized I haven't seen Bergman's Face to Face!
Sounds pretty great- really looking forward to Heller's Fear of a Punk Decade!
Does it start with coverage of Fear of a Punk Planet? Great songs, but overproduced..I really much prefer the Sweating to the Oldies versions..
What was everyone's gateway into punk rock? Mine was a cassette with Sweating to the Oldies and…
I think your reviews of it on this site put it on my radar. Sounds pretty fab.
I finally caved and got Repo Man and Marketa Lazarova last week..I'd been trying to hold out until the summer sale but the Lazarova review made it sound soo good, and then Repo Man started giving me the big puppy dog eyes…
"My recommendation will vary on the basis of your tolerance for post-Weekend Godard."
I would actually add Weekend to the list- that's the first Godard film I found actively distasteful! I'm a big fan of many of his films but it's really hard to watch him get nasty. I still haven't caught up with much after Weekend so…
Did you read Zlata's Diary too?
What about footage of the meat getting beat?
-inquiring minds
You know what? Fuck You!
Reminds me of my first times on AV Club!
Zit Remedy or GTFO
RAN to this page hoping to see Joey Jerimiah or Snake gazing back at me sweetly.
Boo-urns AV Club! Do not take that hallowed Canadian name in vain!
Ha- that is a great band name!
Bummer that at this age it'd be less Guy Picciotto and more Guy Fieri…
@avclub-0f0d67e214f9fef69b278e3d08114da9:disqus Just realizing that every time I've seen you and @avclub-eaff9f19dbfd5c5a5807b5dbfa656ec9:disqus talking about this group I thought you guys were huge Kasabian fans!
I will definitely give this a shake.
Big Rodan fan- hoping my local guy gets a copy of their collection this week! I found them and June of 44 on Epitonic back in the old days. Always laughed that I found what's sometimes referred to as Slint Jr. before I found Slint.
Also- really enjoyed your Record Store anecdote. You never know who's on here, who they…
