Talk! It's only talk!
I didn't know this was even a thing…would've thought they'd be Belew him..

I have the Dismemberment Plan splits but never made it back to one of their full lengths- appreciate the heads up! Between this and the recent Small Brown Bike article it's high school all over again!

I just picked up The Essential Lenny Bruce at the used book store- insane! It's difficult to put him into any context because it still reads like a gonzo button-pusher manifesto in 2013.

@avclub-a70af1b57993128d9b5c57a7cdd3dd41:disqus Yeah- I recently noticed all the Spotify Four Tet was gone too! They only have one of his comps now.
There was the recent 'Live at the South Bank' lp with him and Steve Reid where Mats Gustafsson plays Sax- maybe that's what you're thinking?

I agree, though with some reservations. We still look for and follow curators, there are just thousands now. But still, it's all there.
I came of age in the 'cool older guy' era as well, where it was always a breadcrumb trail and you had to be a detective to find the secret arts. Once you found it it was amazing and

Heller I swear your memoirs are getting better and better. These articles are like crack for me! Long live Coltrane and Cthulu!

I'll take Carlin. Pryor is phenomenal as well, both titans and innovators, but Carlin's writing really kept getting better and better through the years.

Interested to check out the Lite Rock comp and/or discover the originals…still wish my eyes had been correct in seeing Wesley Willis as part of the line-up : (

This Paul Davis lp SHREDS! Blows the basket off Bread!

That helps define the problem further: The music isn't half-bad, they're already famous enough to get their press releases picked up..so why don't they just make the songs?

Genius!

Blech! Thank you THANK YOU for that last paragraph O'Neal. Tough to better state, can't be said enough.
I just don't understand where the money comes in. Aren't you supposed to be compelled to create? Isn't money an occasional repercussion for a select few artists? I know it's tough to coordinate the filming of a

Agreed completely. I have a serious soft spot for the hip-hop feel of their early work. Parallels to Four Tet ten years later- the music evolves as it should, but it started with a kid who loved rap AND other musics..and that's a great combo!

@avclub-51f4fd7b5ffd1b8e79c6f4e77522e096:disqus Hear-Hear! I love Heller's output (and Marah's, and Kyle's, etc.) but it would be nice to get more tastes on the music content.

Great write-up O'Neal. I just found a bootleg 12" of them remixing Midas Touch (I think as Hell Interface?) and it really reminded me of how simple their old style really was. When IDM was beginning its ascent into insanity they were quietly mixing analogue synths and hip-hop beats…and it was perfect!
I love

Yikes! I saw them in San Diego the night after that happened (I think it happened in Phoenix?) and it was a serious bummer. They played fantastically, but you could tell they were struggling to not just coat the place in stomach bile and excrement.
Then they broke up. : (

These Torrents…Are SEEDED!!!!

@avclub-f8665a36d5a911922da81a12443887ed:disqus We must accept our pop-culture fate: Daft Punk create Electronic music, Jay Z invents Rap, Justin Timberlake defines pop..

@avclub-8890e84fa8244fb6b45175bda383cd93:disqus The Few and the Proud!
It'll be odder twenty years from now when grandpa is complaining that they perfected the scream/sing dynamic in the early 2000s..

That's great- My Unanswered Whys is probably my favorite SBB song! (or tied with Make this a Holiday)
I still have that bright green Makoto split- they had the best side on that whole series. It really was a golden age looking back..
