Bravo sir! Here's hoping that piece doesn't make it to the west coast!
My father, via Steve Martin, always loved tossing a 'gee I remember MY first drink' at unruly tables. He doesn't understand art.

Sorry to hear about Evil Dead..I'm using you as a canary!
Also boo to your artier friends who didn't like Badlands! I saw it for the first time and really enjoyed Sheen, Spacek, everything about it really.

Glad to hear you liked Contempt! It's not my favorite Godard, but gives you a much better impression than Breathless! I imagine Jack Palance now anytime I think of producers/studio execs..

Have to respectfully disagree with you on the new Knife lp. It's not 100% but when it's on it destroys. Seems like their ear for melody is intact, but they're in assault mode now,

I saw Wise Blood this weekend, which was pretty great. Ned Beatty and Harry Dean Stanton were green cherries on top of a sweet bowl of southern grotesquerie. As a western yank I can't help but feel awash in the context, but they really bring the characters across and it makes for a nice little amble through town.

I used to keep a word document of all the spam poetry from an old yahoo account. Great jumping point for lyrics!

Piling on the Horsefellow love- anyone that marries the golden age of NES with the absurd has a place at my table!

"..countless hours in the van on tour listening to boring, non-adventurous rock .."
Like the last ten Alkaline Trio albums?!?
Skiba I loved you. You cribbed from the right folks, had a great spin on it..all the pop-punk bands CLAMORED for that pulse that had your finger tapping. Ten years later and you're still writing

HEALTH is one of the best live acts I've ever seen. One of the rare opening groups that steals your attention and opts not to give it back. They were so incredibly bombastic, volatile..reminded me of Refused in the best way, but with more of a tribal/boredoms-y vibe.
They've since branched more into a

Wow- I better snatch some of those Resnais Blus!
Also- are we being total brats about this? Why do I have such a bias against non-criterions? When I see the studiocanal Contempt blu in the aisle I can't help but look at it derisively, though the film probably looks much better than my dvd edition..

I have the same feelings..I just keep asking myself how good the film could possibly be. If I compare said goodness to the original or other films in my queue, does it hold up? Is it worth it?
If John Dies is interesting but flawed, at least I experience something. If Evil Dead is flawed, I hear my vhs, dvd, and blu

Thank you. There's been a whole lot of acceptance and not much raking of this muck. I really appreciate it.

Why yes, that's exactly the game!
I too hue on the fuzzier side of things, but I'll be darned if some samples don't sound great looping with a beat. Rap, Blast, take your pick!

He beat Shadow at his own game!
I'd add Moby to that list, but the only influence he passed was in licensing..

Pretty sure I have all of those comps- I still get 'today's the day I'm glad I'm not dead' stuck in my head from time to time which I'm almost positive was on that Hootenanny comp.My introduction to punk rock was on the back of cheap compilations- punk bites, go ahead punk make my day, the punkoramas and survival of

I remember you were quite the roustabout yourself some years ago! The button-pushers don't always get their due around these parts, but I understand what you're saying.
Still, HDB is the last poster I'd expect to get cited in someone's film crit! I'd have put Kirk or Capwne ahead in the odds.

" HipsterDBag makes a good case…"
This is the only time we'll ever see this written..

@avclub-cfe912f5cb3aa572bd1c9ae2a9b82207:disqus I've still yet to see the Soderbergh version, which is inexcusable given my love of the original. I'll need to track that down.
I also noticed that King of the Hill had been added to Netflix the other day- I believe you and Narrator speak highly of it, correct?

Excited for you to see Solaris. I still haven't watched it since grabbing the blu- I'll have to push it through the house for this weekend's fest!

Not enough references to Orthodoxy!
