I really liked it! I think it was a non-partisan shot for Heidecker to show his stuff, and I think by all accounts it succeeded. It balances the humor and pathos better than I expected, and better than most indie movies. Rick really pulled it off, and Tim really shines.

I know exactly what you mean. The waves of documentaries after have captured the quirk or the leery snark, but they rarely strike the emotional balance.

A bottle of vodka and an acoustic Ride the Lightning riff does not a Mike Schank make!

One of the all-time great films. From the golden era of quirk documentaries, but really holds up for me as an examination of the artist's struggle and the journey that must be taken. I pick up something new everytime I watch it.
I think this is a film where the heart wins.

Where have all the Panic at the Discos gone?

I guess he really wasn't okay..
This would've brightened my day ten years ago. Now I can't remember exactly which war I was fighting.

Highlander 2 and American Ninja this morning- everyone was working hard this weekend!
I commend your viewing and raise you a Warlock!

That's great! I bought a 2tb hard drive this weekend and named him ED-209. I daydreamed wistfully about him for some time.
So far he's playing well with his brother tb303..

As time goes by the name Dudikoff becomes hallowed, whispered by hooded men of a certain age betwixt DC Cab and Jack Burton quotes.
If you star in M.I.A. 1 - 4 you become a meme. If you star in American Ninja 1-4 you become immortal..

Film Fest!
Two-Lane Blacktop was everything I'd always hoped it'd be. I spent the weekend warning bystanders that I could suck them up in my tailpipe if I were so inclined. Up there with Vanishing Point for sure in the 'Car Movies I actually like' category. The Cicadas scene has stuck with me something terrible.
Great

@avclub-9be75ed66efe53417ae617e8aa5a1328:disqus You actually nailed it completely. Funny about the writing too- I have the same thing with certain non-fiction writers. Some arts I can imbibe freely, but some force me to stop immediately and work on something of my own!

I know it sounds silly…it's something about psych guitar that hits too close to home. I gurgle with ideas.

I love O'Neal's music review tone- so much more professorial! I always imagine him wearing black-rim glasses a la Homer when he learns about telemarketing, the internet, etc..
I'll have to check out this Rhye- I love Sade, and this is no ordinary love…

Misread as Robert Englund, and wet myself trying to click on the link!
Confronted with a picture of Donald Trump..what a weird world!

That's actually a pretty darn good description of their sound! Beat that journalists!
I haven't been able to listen to this band much because their riffs/production/melodies/etc. are SO GOOD sometimes, it's tough to listen to as a fellow musician. I remember Bradford saying something to that effect about Panda Bear

I had yet to see Rosemary's Baby until picking up the Blu last halloween- what a knockout film! On TOP of the acting, cinematography, colors, etc. there's a menage and horror that is SO palpable. So few films are Actually suspenseful, horrifying, etc. but this film nails it. *40 year old Spoilers* The boogeyman is

I might need to watch Knife again- I really liked the cinematography, and of course the old knife game, but otherwise the film left me cold. Lots of menace but not necessarily much happening.
It could be me- I can't fully judge a film unless I've seen it 2+ times, but I'd definitely push for Repulsion next.

All this coming from the guy that revels in fiasco? How many pop-culture F's and Blecchs can you give out before your 'won't somebody please think of the Phishermen' card gets revoked?
Love you Rabin, but as a fellow fringe-dweller…'Lighten up, Francis!'

It really has an air that's slightly different than his other movies of that period. It's still all the regular actors, but the dread is of a more suspenseful, less existential variety. Almost in the league with his 'horror' films, but different from them as well.

It's like Tarkovsky's AD and Lobsters had a love-child! Irreverant, but Global!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Burl / Horsefellow mashup..
