I did- here's hoping it's good!
I did- here's hoping it's good!
Really hope you like Solaris- one of the absolute best!
I watched Purple Noon on hulu, and from time to time I still think of the blue water, Alain Delon's blue eyes…just a gorgeous looking film. The 90s Ripley does the material better, but the 60s one is much more fun to watch.
Solaris is in my top 5- definitely a gateway movie for me. I really hope you like it. I know you dig Mallick, so maybe Tarkovsky's right up your alley?
I managed to grab Playtime at our local B&N. Snapped up Paris, Texas in the sale on your rec and looking forward to watching it,.
On the contrary- it's both astounding and depressing how few undergrads know who Mark E. Smith is!
Flaggued!
I'll support new Can-O when I get back the money I spent on Vast solo albums!
In related news, I found a promo white-label of The F-Word last weekend with a photocopied letter from El-P. Love that song!
I can hear her in my head right now, "And it worried me"
RIP Ms. Staples. Take us away.

That's cool- I have to check out more of that! My roommate just wrapped up a Twin Peaks watch and was just showing me video of Angelo talking about how David and him shape his compostions. Made me really want to do collaborative scoring- must be fun to follow someone else's muse once in a while.
Be careful- it can spread and get contagious! You're gonna wake up one morning in a pile of Outer Space lps, wondering if any distros still have that split C-20!
Do you like Keith Freund? He played on that Trouble Books split with Mark, but he had a solo album last year that was pretty great- very similar to Mark,…
Everytime I say 'I don't know' green slime comes pouring down from the sky- can someone please clear this up?
Our local used to play sound after 8pm- you could almost read their lips! One pair specifically..
Anybody listening to anything good this week?
I've been pulling a Noel and playing popless/catch-up, although I did pick up those Grouper reissues this last weekend. Found a copy of Popol Vuh's Nosferatu which has been playing well with the Grouper lps.
I've also been familiarizing myself with the Unwound back…
That Mirrorring record was great! Liz has her vibe dialed in so-clearly, so it's interesting to see what other people bring out in her.
And they keep getting better! I got into her around the time of Dragging- thought she was much more in line with the freak-folk type stuff going around earlier. Who knew she'd keep getting better and better?
I could totally see you liking that stuff based on your previous likes- all that synth stuff has really made a come back in the last few years.
Of course it goes without saying that the Grouper reissue is absolutely amazing, though more ambient/folky..
@avclub-f8f8c273f326be25421cc62737d24a9e:disqus Also, just came across Schizopolis on Hulu- hoping to catch it this week on your and Craig's recommendation. I don't get the Supreme Soderbergh love around here (I lived through the 90s and don't remember most of his films being many degrees past middling.) but I say…
Have to echo the Band of Outsiders love- it would maybe be my preferred Godard gateway? If I was trying to break Godard on a non-art non-foreign film type, this would for sure be the one!
Sadly, I'd have to do the double dip if I wanted the blu-ray. I swore I'd only do it with Solaris…then came Vivre Sa Vie…am I really…
Stoked on On the Waterfront- another glaring absence in my repetoire. (Though there will have to be some serious discounting to get me to grab it this week -my criterion queue has built up and I've cut additions until I work through the backlog)
I'm really surprised about the blu Dead Alive- I snatched that up last…
It's funny how actually hard it can be to play like him! You can hear it and swear it's generic chromatic noodling, which it basically is, but not as easy as it seems.
I heard Steve Cabellero was Greg's original choice, but he had to dedicate 2013 to his vert-game.
