With you 100% Pud. Nice enough gent, happy he fancies himself a songwriter..just can't seem to glean anything from his stuff.
People complain Andy Stott is overrated- yeesh!
Amazing when you contemplate how Postal Service just SO TOTALLY NAILED IT all those years ago. Even if you were listening to Dntel or Her Space Holiday or Notwist at the time, they just completely sealed that vibe away forever.
A blessing and a curse, to live in the shadows of a perfect artifact.
The cover for it is one of the best dvd covers I've seen in awhile. I can't remember the last time I was so sold by appearance.
It's tough when every movie is a capital-c classic. Sometimes you're left wondering when "it" kicks in.
Sometimes things need to age on the shelf a little bit. (or maybe it's us that needs to oxidize?) I had that revelation watching Last Year at Marienbad a few years back. The film left me a little cold, but I had a…
Congrats on your journey good sir- you've got some good stuff lined up! I still haven't seen any Wenders outside of Pina.
I still haven't watched The Thin Red Line I picked up last week, and I'm still working through the Eclipse Box Sets. Our house did a triple-header on Sunday- we did Midnight Cowboy (my choice),…
I picked up the Nikkatsu, Kurahara and the Shochiku box sets last month (they didn't have the Oshima in stock) and have been working my way through them- intense! It's really amazing how the Japanese can take an idea and run with it, only to far outpace the work they were originally referencing.
Thanks for the…
That's a bummer- that cover has been singing like a siren song to me for Months!
Maybe I'll have to make a sandwich mid movie?
I think Band of Outsiders is his best crime film Vivre Sa Vie his best art film, Alphaville his best sci-fi…this isn't turning out very well!
Funny that it's tough to pick a favorite Godard- they're all so different! It's just a shame to think of people not tripping down the rabbit hole because Breathless didn't…
I agree completely Washington- Breathless left me cold the first time I saw it. It’s so obviously ‘cool,’ but doesn’t have much beyond a feeling of style to sustain it. I like it much more now, but I can't help but think that if 17 year-old me had seen Pierre Le Fou he would have had his mind blown!
Happy to see Numero stepping out of their comfort zone and putting this out. I always got Unwound and Unrest mixed up until I found a copy of Leaves Turn and realized one sounds more like Fugazi.
Favorite Numero Issue?
Grand Bahama Goombay. I used that Mustang Sally break for a lot of bad rap in the mid 2000s…
Anyone listening to anything good this week? I tried that Foxygen and it was well done, though not necessarily my bag. They've got a good sound, but they didn't knock me out like Tame Impala did last year.
I'm interested in hearing the new Tomahawk, but I've otherwise been on a Stereolab kick so far this week.
Radiolab has done some specials with them- this was my first taste of them:

Wait a second..pretty sure Kid A came out a few years before Deloused.
I make this claim as a gentleman, without wiki backup, but Kid A HAD to have come out before 2003, right? Maybe we meant Hail to the Thief?
I agree with all of this- I was as excited as anyone when Defacto morphed into Mars Volta, and thought completely they were MY band, now. That was back in 2001. Things have changed a bit.
I think the mileage we squeeze out of art-forms can sometimes involve diminishing returns and shelf lives…but I will always love…
Poss an Panz? Was Poss an Panz?!?
It was shitty to get out of adolescence and realize I never got the opportunity to band together as youth and fight back the evil terrorists/evil land developers/evil parents..
This is registering pretty well on the pasty-mixtape scale- much much higher than Sweet Valley!
It IS pretty hard to go wrong on the movie sample + beat formula, but this still beats roughly 80% of the stuff they call rap these days.
Laurie Anderson is a good call- I've always thought some of Silent Shout and Fever Ray sounded like Talking Heads.
@avclub-960547bf92b85e53a15ffe559d3401b5:disqus Ahh! I guess the vocals would be a dealbreaker..I know how you feel about the hype machine- sometimes it feels like I'm taking crazy pills when I hear x about band y, but The Knife really are pretty great!
@avclub-bde03a31feb6259716046ea17db6e426:disqus I was thinking the same Swans comparison! Fans are stoked to get new material, regardless of how it's divvied up.
If I'm going to listen to an album for 30-60 minutes, what the hell do I care how many breaks they take? Let it Ride!
