I felt the same way but was too ashamed to post about it. I guess "I've been tooling around for 15 years and STILL no one gives a shit" isn't as compelling, but still- it amazes me how it just happens to some folks. Grizzly Bear are more deserving of their acclaim than many (not really a big fan) but I can't help

The coolest people aren't even IN bands. They don't bother to affect the constraints of a "music group"

I had Labour of Love on cassette as well- I still feel like Please Don't Make Me Cry helped pave my way into emo and other lyrical forms of self-pity. I have it on lp now, but it's hard for me to get past the overly synthy-production.

I really liked that first ep, although it lacked the bite of Les Savy Fav and Liars and all of the better dancepunk going on at the time. My friend Daniel followed them for another lp or two.
It's even weirder when said buzzbands continue releasing records or gain later acclaim, a la Hot Hot Heat or Rapture or !!!

Who knew the Roots brought out the TRUE pud?? Startling, this other dimension.

I understand your criticism and appreciate your honesty, but: should you ever get a hankering for some rainy day post-hardcore, check this one out. An outlier in their catalogue.

It doesn't hit California until the middle of November, so I'm in the same boat Craig! The ms. just heard about this yesterday and we watched the trailer last night, so this article officially put me on the "Get your ass to Mars" boat. Can't Wait!

I just got a ps3 this summer and finally started getting blu-rays! Seriously everything I've seen on it so far has looked beautiful- even on my terrible old tv. All of the color features I've seen have been beautiful- Red Desert, Solaris (definite improvement over the already great dvd), and Days of Heaven all looked

No, but really though, you have to check out Ione Skye.

@avclub-e8f9d53defcc3772ac37418dea07538e:disqus That Grosskopf album would've been perfect! I'd already forgotten about that one!
You're right about KFW being off the beaten path as far as synthers- maybe heshould have been in the label/distro area for Mimaroglu
