Super bummer. Hadn't noticed that. I'm only in Orange County!

D_Boons_Ghost You're instantly passionate because you're young. It makes for great reading, even when it verges on hubris, because you like the things you talk about. I imagine I would've had the same ten paragraph responses just a couple years ago.

While I appreciate our dearly departed Minuteman's enthusiasm for this discussion, it reeks of youthful exuberance. I'm not going so far as to say he just discovered all of these things…I just know that things are very clear cut and defined when you're 23- "the loudness war is murdering us!!!" Pretty sure most obscure

Care to explain what Pop Revival is? Also- what happened to Pop that it had to be revived? Why haven't Idaho Southern California caught on?
Won't somebody please think of the Children?!?

Ha! Fela Kuti!

Jazz further exemplifies my "how do you quantify" quandary. How does one say LaFaro is "better" than Chambers?

One of my favorite bassists is Bruce Thomas of the Attractions. His work with Pete Thomas on This Years Model lays out EXACTLY how a hot rhythm section affects the song, the other musicians, etc. He's very melodic and fancy when he wants to be, but with meat and potato with the drums when it's called for.

When I was going out of my mind listening to ska bassists in the mid-90's I swore no one had ever played bass like this before. My dad, appreciating my youthful folly, made me a Who tape to jam in my walkman.
I'd heard My Generation a million times, but I'd never HEARD it..

Never got around to that and I'm a big Fela fan- to the Internets!

On what grounds do we judge a bassist? When I was a junior-high bassist in the midst of the punk/ska explosion I would've gravitated towards Matt Freeman, Matt Wong, Fat Mike, etc. If someone wasn't playing flashy or doing 1-3-5 runs I was unimpressed- they must suck!. You get older, and you start to appreciate less

I was a big ATDI fan, and I followed the two resulting strands of Volta and Sparta with every ounce of my 18 year-old passion. In southern california, you had the chance to see THE FIRST mars volta shows after Defacto, and oh the Ecstasy! There were only 2 demo mp3s out at this point, so you really didn't know what

My older brother used to watch this while we were eating breakfast- I couldn't stand it! Why Mr. Wizard instead of Thundercats, Dustin?!? Why?!? He's SOO BORING!!!
I like that I DESPISED this show when it was on, and now I get nostalgic. The little brother conundrum? You kids with your Bill Nye and Beakman- THIS was
