The new book seems to follow that line pretty well, surprisingly. Grown up Danny remembers his father with affection, but King didn't make it seem as though Jack came off more positively in The Shining than he actually did (also, there's a kinda silly, arbitrary plot twist that makes him seem even worse). I agree that…
I'm still on board, and I'll settle for archetypes as long as they're not outright terrible characters, like the not-so-warmly remembered Andrea. And when I say "terrible" I don't mean villainous, I mean a character whose motivations and actions seem to serve no purpose other than to baffle and aggravate the audience.
Carol's not gone, it's mentioned right in the review that they have a flirtation with each other.
I think A.A. Dowd reviews movies on a scale from "meh" to "I guess it was okay."
But today's world is so inhospitable to white dudes, y'know?
So this dude has nude pictures of some studio's executive's wife stashed away in a safe somewhere, right?
From the neck up Mia Goth looks like she's about 12, so it's a little more disturbing than what I hope was the intent.

Two comments down!
Project Runway fans, who do you got for the third designer at Fashion Week? I'm almost positive it'll be Helen, but I'm pulling for Justin. He's had some truly amazing ideas, but also I don't want to see him cry if he doesn't make it.
Read David Rakoff's essay about how much he hated it, it's wonderful.
It's hard for me to judge, because in his younger days, particularly during the mid to late 70s, he reminded me a *lot* of my dad in appearance, so that makes it a bit weird. But yeah, the voice and natural charisma are huge factors in his attractiveness.
FINALLY.
Something from the Christopher Cross catalog would go nicely.
I liked the bleakness of it, though! Right up until the very end I had no idea who was going to make it, and that made it exciting.
Yeah, I get that now it's intentionally campy, but…I don't know, it just sorta left me cold. But again, I'm willing to stay the course if it looks like it's going to go as much off the rails as season two did.
I wasn't as immediately drawn into this one as I was with season two. It feels a lot like the "throw a lot of shit at the wall and see what sticks" tone of season one (I realize that was season two as well, but it seemed to be spaced out a little better), and the killer pussy thing at the end just seemed to be…
