The true antihero of this show isn't Dexter Morgan (who the hell knows who he is as a character anymore?), it's the Dexter writing staff, collectively. We've seen that they're capable of both great good and great evil, and I, for one, am very invested in their struggle to overcome their worst impulses and deliver a

The best way to watch this show is to get drunk enough that you actually need Dexter's incessant voiceover to explain to you what you just saw. But, no shit guys, I'm actually excited for this season. Every scene that has Dex and Deb onscreen together is quality television, and almost everything else is terrible, but

You nailed it. I don't want to watch a show about a likeable serial killer, because in order for that character to exist, everything around him has to be stupid. Lila has to kill Doakes, to save Dexter the trouble and to justify him killing her later. Miguel Prado has to be a crazy, indiscriminate killer so we can see

Who's the bigger idiot: Dexter, for luring LaGuerta to the shipping container and ignoring the possibility that she'd come with backup like she did last time, or LaGuerta, for not thinking to come with backup like she did last time? That whole setup to that was rushed and silly.

I got that vibe too, but you can get away with a certain amount of that when Martin Scorsese's name is in the opening credits of your show.

A big part of it is that Showtime doesn't like to mess with the formula. What do Boardwalk, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad all have in common besides being the best shows on TV right now? They've all figured out a way to change from season to season rather than reverting back to the status quo. Showtime

Given the life expectancy of anybody working for him, do you think those guys would have objected when Tonino pulled out a knife and maybe jerked a thumb in Gyp's direction?

Well, Mad Men had a hell of a season too, so it's between those two*. I suppose Homeland could pull it out at the end, but it'll be hard to top what Boardwalk just did.

Yes! I was waiting for somebody to bring this up. This was a terrible episode of Dexter, but watching it immediately after Boardwalk made it even more unbearable.

God damn it, and things were going so well. This season hasn't exactly been great TV (with the exception of the terrific Deb-finds-out-her-brother's-a-killer stuff), but I liked its quantity over quality approach: maybe the various storylines weren't amazing by themselves, but there were so many of them happening at
