Hollywood Finished?
Do movies even make any money anymore? Some may make back their investment, and others may make back a little bit more than that, but is anyone getting rich off the business anymore?

Whoops! Fourth paragraph should be:

Mike D'Angelo Is an Idiot
Great, so what we've got here is a crash course on conventionalism and a Sid Field lecture on why one should always stick to the book. Bravo, you've got such interesting taste. You sound like one of those film students that abhors the long tracking shot in "Week End" and then goes off and

Hahahaha, they should name a band after this movie!

"My 64 year old church-going mom somehow got hold of this book and she said it was really good. I'm not sure how that happened, but she recommends it."

Westerners finding peace in the East is a load of shit. It's that kind of feeling a Westerner thinks he should feel because he's read a few books about cherry blossoms and seen a few Kurosawa/Ozu films. Then he goes to Japan and sees it's the same as any other place except for a lesser regard for fire hazard and

Actually, Mr. Japan Fetish Jim, Flarn is right regardless of whether or not he's been to Japan. Just because YOU didn't happen upon a Butoh artist when you were in Japan, doesn't mean it's impossible to do so. Happenstance is a pretty inpredictable thing, you know.

I agree with mbs in that there is totally a future for indie films as long as people continue to make them. Whether or not the "spirit" of indie films will last is questionable.
