I read that after Barney Miller, its writer-producer Danny Arnold had a six-episode comedy-drama in 1986 called Joe Bash about a beat officer starring Peter Boyle. It had no laugh track and was critically acclaimed, although short-lived.

Barney Miller — Ensemble sitcom acting at its finest. Even the late Steve Landesberg on the later years was great.  I am glad the "Hash" episode was brought up. One of my favourite sitcom episodes of the 70s, along with the "Chuckles the Clown" episode on Mary Tyler Moore.

Two things that come to mind upon hearing about Heavy D's passing:
