It's not something I "believe", but it's fun to think about, in terms of where this crazy experience of conscious really comes "from". I feel like complex animals easily could have exists as mindless automatons, that react to stimuli with certain adaptive behaviors, but instead we have this sensation of a existing.

I'm fine with not existing after I die. I mean, sometimes I freak out a little if I think about it the wrong way, but when's its all over, universal oblivion seems like one of the least bad possibilities (compared to all the religious ideas of afterlives)

I really like these Wiki Wormhole features - keep up the good work, AV Club!

I think it's one of the (potentially) most unselfish forms of narcissism there is.

you could choose to interpret it as liberating - since nothing you do matters, what is stopping you from doing anything?

I think the idea of a contiguous "sphere" is silly, but an array of billions solar-energy absorbing platforms dispersed around a star seems pretty reasonable

Or EM communication could just be a hugely inefficient and time-consuming mode of communication, and once we find ways to send signals through discrete wormholes, our civilization will go "silent".

'People who worry about the future so much that they miss the NOW are foolish. There is only Now, and it's pretty terrific, filled with beauty and joy. Why miss it?"

Congratulations and good luck. I don't think there's an objective "meaning" to life, but there is beauty in the world that we are privileged to share with others, and kids, as troublesome and aggravating as they can be, are an important part of that. And that's enough for me - I don't really care if anyone remembers

Speaking personally, I never thought about having kids until I met my current partner. After that it just "felt" right - hard to really explain.

This is one of the most convincing arguments against an anthropomorphic God who loves each of us individually. At some point, you just stop caring. If there was an eternal and omnipotent God, He would almost certainly either be Evil (by our puny mortal standards), omni-curious (think a five year old playing with an

If we avoid self-genocide long enough to spread to other planets, we should be pretty safe from catastrophic world ending events, like a giant asteroid or a super volcano. I guess there's always the chance that there is a massive gamma-ray burst heading our way that will completely obliterate the ionsphere of every

I could see this being the official Arby's slogan.

Think Globally, Act Locally.

You don't want to fuck up your precious comment:upvote ratio, do you?

I can respect different aspects of people. I think GW Bush was a terrible President, but by all accounts the man could put away an enormous amount of cocaine.

Just to spin a few butterflies of Tywin's survival:

Wow, what was Cameron Esposito doing at a comedy festival?

Fair enough. I fully admit I do not know much about his life.
