Yup, I was definitely waiting for the rejuvenation scene, followed by the inevitable monsterification scene, followed by the final death-match with heroine scene (with optional redemption of daughter through heroic sacrifice scene). Instead we got Weyland tossed to the ground and giving a final "Oy! Ain't that a

Yeah, that about sums up my response. Speaking of cliches, here's one that particularly grated: the "androids have no feelings" trope that felt freshly ripped from 1950s-era sci fi.

Cutting room floor is probably right. They did release those (IMO, not-very-good) fake TED talks with Guy Pearce, so perhaps they originally had bigger ambitions for this character.

Here's a question: why was Guy Peace cast as Weyland? They never showed the young version of the character in the movie, and old-guy makeup always looks cheesy even under the best of circumstances. So why not cast an old guy?

Oh, hm. I wasn't paying enough attention to which character you were talking about. There were a lot of funky accents in the movie — which I liked — but, yeah, there were probably also just some iffy acting going on.

Yes, this.

Yes, this.

This seems not-so-hard to explain. Accents change over time. The end.

I can't really agree with this. The reaction to the alien discovery was bizarre and completely unmotivated. These are scientists who poke around in Scotland and get all weepy when they discover a cave painting, and then fall into an moody alcoholic funk mere minutes after making what they themselves describe as the

Future Ryan Gosling? Dude is five years older than the Gos, and I'm pretty sure they could both be Pattinson's dad. In fact, I'm pretty sure they both are Pattinson's dad.
