Pete Holmes: funny. One of the few young comics to warm my tiny black heart.

The only thing more annoying than wacky performance art disguised as comedy is a self-aggrandizing documentary about how your wacky performance art is changing the world. They're talking about the founder of this Improv group like he's goddamned Gandhi. Maybe I'm just a bad person, but I have an instant and intense…
Or his wine commercial outtakes, which I can't help but think of whenever anyone mentions Orson Wells, wine, France, or the name Paul.
Aziz is funny in Human Giant, Parks & Rec, and shows with Rob Heubel…you know, things where other people are around to write his lines and create the comedy. I've always thought his standup is unwatchable.
Agreed: comically terrible. I don't know if Paul Rudd is going to be on Conan any time soon, but if he is he should consider using this clip instead of his traditional Mac and Me clip (http://www.youtube.com/watc….
"Ack, my groin!"
It's very hard for a standup to turn down a good TV credit. Not only is TV really good (and really easy) money compared to standup, but a good TV credit and the raised profile that comes with it makes booking a standup tour infinitely more possible (the TV credit makes you infinitely more bookable). The Comedians of…
John Hodgman: funny
I have never read anything of his or seen him in anything in which he wasn't funny. I'm glad he's getting attention - he deserves it.
His standup is terrible. He probably holds the record for number of times losing an audience that came in wanting to love him.
This proves again: acting is very different than standup. When he's on 30 Rock, Tina Fey and 15 other brilliant writers are penning his lines. When he's doing standup, it's all him.
Agreed. He doesn't seem to have much of an ego.
The male-female dynamic on that show - which is a show that I love - looks extremely dated these days. The funny thing is that back then the show was considered edgy (Laura wore pants!), so it gives you an idea of just how regressive the mindset was back then.
@Pro Tools - the Internet.com says you are right, although it is not entirely clear to me whether she was 100% hired at that point or only a "featured player", so to speak, as they've done with other people in the past.
It's because of the Daily Show gig. Jezebel complained that the Daily Show doesn't have enough women, and she got hired like an hour later (that's hyperbole, of course…but not much). So, now, the Daily Show - which has set such a high standard for comedy - has one conspicuously unfunny correspondent who is so far…
Noel's right: studios are inserting sentimentality into their movies because they see them in Pixar movies and they're trying to copy what works. Studios only know formulas. They only trust what's worked in the past. That's why every movie pitch is: "It's (successful move A) meets (successful movie B)!"
I had never heard of this case, but I just read the story linked to on this thread, and…yeah, this should not be a comedy. This should have been a Coen brothers movie in the vein of Fargo or No Country for Old Men.
They're all very good comedians - why don't we just leave it at that? Personally, I don't see the point in figuring out how many people can fit into a Pantheon and then deciding who gets the spots. My personal opinion is that Paul F. Topkins is hilarious, and it doesn't matter to me whether he's below or above Eddie…
I eagerly await every minute of this show - it sounds awesome. If Hodgman appears, it will not only be a mustache-0ff - it will be an intentionally-pretentious-dry-wit-off.
Aubrey Plaza may be a pretty good actor…
…but I feel this needs to be said: her standup is unwatchable. Sooooooo bad. No jokes at all. The AV Club might want to think about distinguishing between "funny person" and "actor on a funny show".
Count me among those who think Intolerable Cruelty is hilarious and extremely underrated. Same goes for Hudsucker Proxy. Ladykillers, I think, is their worst movie, which, as someone pointed out, means that it's just pretty good.
Charlie Sheen's ranting reminds me…
…is Eastbound and Down coming back? I like Danny McBride's version of Kenny Fuckin' Powers better than Charlie Sheen's.
