I regularly watch shows that I'm going to review with my roommates or with other friends, because a show like Family Guy can be significantly improved when a group of people laugh at the jokes. Watching it in some kind of pristine lab condition while solo would be even more excruciating. Nobody wants that.

This. All of this.

Absolutely. God I miss George Carlin. He was like Vonnegut, the way he said things was just way fucking better than anyone else could say them.

I defer to one of my favorite quotes about the two sports, from Mary McGrory: "Baseball is what we were, and football is what we have become."

Whittling down my introductory list got really difficult when I had to leave off Pafko at the Wall and Universal Baseball Association. That book is so damn strange but it's fascinating. Reminded me a lot of Too Loud A Solitude but with baseball.

Kinsella's books were pretty disappointing to me. They seemed to prey on the easiest emotional buttons with regard to a story about baseball. Also can't stand Kevin Costner in almost anything (Bull Durham and Tin Cup are big exceptions), so the movie doesn't do much for me either.

Pafko at the Wall is great, but the focus isn't really on the game or the sport, that's just the setting. Still undoubtedly an amazing novella/opening chapter.

The data presented in this doc says that about 1/3 of all healthcare costs over the course of a person's lifetime is end-of-life care, which I believe is something like the the last 2 years of life.

I like that NTSF is basically pitching new shows to Adult Swim in the credits of each episode, especially considering that's basically how NTSF got made into its own series.
