My friends and I were Dana Gould groupies for like two years, and we would see him whenever he played San Francisco. This would have been 1996-97. He was un-fucking-believable. Amazing material, great ad-libs, and crackerjack timing.

No doubt. The book's unrelenting nihilism is somehow scarier than its premise. It should've been called "Fucked."

I would start with Maggie the Mechanic ("v.1"), then move on to Girl from HOPPERS ("v.2"). The background may not be totally necessary, but it's fun as shit!

It's unfortunate that so many long-running and oft compelling superhero series were so horribly maimed by what we now refer to as "the 1990s." The X-Men are a good example of this, but the 1990s were also hard on Superman (who suffered death, a mullet, and a brief stint as a being made of electricity), Aquaman (who

Aw c'mon. If they get Neil LaBute and Nick Cage on board, this one's a can't-miss!

@Jay: That's it. You win. All other comments are hereby unnecessary.

If the hacker is played by a young, devil-may-care Johnny Lee Miller, then it will be the greatest film ever made. I'm thinking Fisher Stevens as the villain.

Let's Talk About Your Big But
I agree with a lot of your criticisms, Noel, but I'm glad Keith was chosen for the original review. Who wants their super-hero comics reviewed by someone who "rarely reads super-hero comics anymore"? I mean, you're clearly capable and open-minded, and I'm no fanboy-solidarity activist,

Hey Sean,

'U.S.A. Today' has the full story??
This has got to be the first time that sentence has ever been used without a hint of irony.

I saw Evil Dead 2 during its limited theatrical release when I was, like, 13 years old. It seriously blew my fucking mind. I would love to experience that again.

TWO WORDS
MANSERVANT HECUBUS

Jesus, thanks for making me cry at work, Kyle!!

REVISIONIST WESTERN
Great observation that this is in the tradition of the revisionist Westerns of the 1970s, but you can actually start in the '60s: the empty fountain full of glass that they jump into is a tribute to the empty fountain from the Marlon Brando/Karl Malden shootout at the end of One-Eyed Jacks (1961),

PETE & THE PIRATES
Josh, if you get the chance, go see Pete & The Pirates. They've never played the U.S. before, and their SXSW shows (they're playing like four showcases) are the only shows scheduled in the states.

The Kinks' "Sunny Afternoon"
At the very least, it's the song I enjoy the most when I have a beer in my hand. And since that's a solid 40% of the time, it seems like a clear winner.

Upon further reading, everyone has made this assumption already. Duh.

Starbuck's Dad = Daniel?
I'm sure 100 others have suggested this already, but is it reasonable to assume that Hera is not the first human/cylon hybrid, and Starbuck's dad is in fact the defunct Daniel model?

TOSSED-OFF CHILDREN'S STORIES???
So superheroes come from the stories of children who were manually stimulated? Actually, that sounds about right.

The Tug Job to the Primer's Home Run?
These Gateways to Geekery are essentially just Primer teases. So why not just do the Primer? Even if you don't think Glam rates the full treatment, certainly the French New Wave is ripe for the full AV Club treatment.
