Nepotism/Privilege, and maybe his individual field effectiveness. We saw last season he's a flying ace who doesn't need a plane.

Fire Nation royalty tying themselves to warfare seems like a dumb move, considering their history. Why would they want to hold on to that tradition / why would Aang let them? Although since it's not their military, maybe it's mitigated.

@avclub-83de02c3cfc3634de1279cbc17a8fbae:disqus : Depends on your definition of "antihero". A lot of today's darker comedies have antiheroes who are awkward, terrible at their jobs and spiteful to boot.

@avclub-85ed7f6298463dd23ec7c56a57771a6d:disqus : Varrick's expressive because he's so broad. Bolin gets some of that too. But the more subtle stuff is getting cut out, except in Big Scenes.

I think of it as the Avatar being a neutralizing force. Whenever some power struggle goes out of balance, they correct it (although not necessarily back to the old status quo, since Aang and Kyoshi have both founded independent nations).

If they're doing the War of Independence it would be nice to see some analog to the Loyalists - in this case, Southerners who agree the North and South should be united, possibly with the spirit wormhole or whatever Unalaq's working on.

Might as well throw in "masturbate while fantasizing about the identical twin he consumed in the womb" and "watermelon rape" from Suttree.

Ohhhhh-kay. I thought you meant literal dragons (through spirit world shenanigans or something).

Other fish in the dating scene. Still a mixed metaphor, unless you're into that.

It depends on the make and the fit of the frame. I wear tight glasses that fit under safety goggles and I can swim in them. Linda's big wire frames… shouldn't be able to do that.

"Sokka with moneybending": What I wanted Asami to be.

"I don't sandbending. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like you, Mako."

You could throw Mako and Bolin in there too, since the idea is that being cared for by Mako is why Bolin is a manchild and caring for Bolin is why Mako has the personality of muddy rubber boot.

Well, they finally used that ricin. By this point it was practically in the main cast. I'll pour out some Stevia tomorrow morning.

@avclub-b9a25e422ba96f7572089a00b838c3f8:disqus : Germany IS a cool place, and to the best of my knowledge nothing in my post alleges that they are/were all Nazis. Actually I was trying to distinguish between the enmity of France and Germany in, say, the 19th century (mostly just competitive; more like rival teams in

The pacing is still a problem. I'd rather they sacrifice the humor than the moments that let the plot and characters develop some weight, but it seems to be the opposite.

Korra not being called on aggression: Yes, although I seem to remember Tenzin and Lin were the ones doing it the most last season and they're both absent. Why it doesn't even concern the rest of the cast is a mystery. ATLA consistently questioned what its protagonists were going to do, why, and whether it was the

They checked in with each other a couple times the last few episodes. Frankly I prefer zero affection.

@avclub-22917e9547a39fad4966a8da3067b595:disqus : I don't think diving to the sea floor and levitating up a chunk of rock to fly around on is as easy as you make it out to be. And she couldn't use water because they had waterbenders who could disrupt that. It'd turn into a tug-of-war while she was in mid-air.

America and France (and France and Germany) were strategic enemies but they weren't ideological enemies. There was never a question of the French "cleansing" America, or vice versa. Those kinds of enmity are easy to forgive and forget. I'd bet there are plenty of people today who would have an immediate visceral
