Yeah, I wasn't disagreeing about Jeff Lucey being the inspiration, just adding to your comment.

My first movie in a theatre was an obscure Indian children's film about a young prince who meets an extraterrestrial (which IMDB tells me was called Aasman Se Gira, so I must have been around 6). The first English-language movie was The Lion King though, which was pretty awesome.
The Coen brothers grew up there too.

ASP mentioned in an interview that the girls didn't have much acting experience and it took her a while to find their strengths, so she's developing their characters slowly. (Also, she identifies with Boo herself.)

The Brits tend to make a lot more women-centric shows, especially as they make more period/domestic dramas. BBC's Call the Midwife (which hasn't aired in the US yet) had a great female cast.

I think that was sort of the point in that episode… the rivalry between punk rock and heavy metal fans as a meta-argument for Lorelai and Christopher's incompatibility (which is typical of ASP's characters… making pop-culture references instead of talking about feelings and stuff directly).

Yeah, Lorelai and Christopher get into a Metallica vs Offspring argument in one episode.

I re-watched this episode recently. Louise and Madeline seem excited about going to a concert in the city since they had never been to one before. Paris doesn't want to go initially, but enjoys herself when she's there. Though the show always dropped a lot of one-off references, Lorelai does tend to like a lot of '80s…
