Really? That's interesting. I would argue that the large majority of cinematic portrayals of Los Angeles are overwhelmingly negative while the large majority of cinematic portrayals of New York are overwhelmingly loving. New York gets all kinds of love letters dedicated to it; we always get the frustrated

great interiew
great writer.

the best part
is the scene where he get shot into the river, and beau bridges is like, "well. that takes care of that. let's go." and the evil henchman says something to the effect of, "don't you want to wait and make sure he's dead?" and bb basically says, "nope."

i wonder
if it's ever difficult for you guys to ask actors/directors/whatever about movies you have entire features on that focus on nothing but how fucking terrible they are. does that get awkward, to be having a great conversation like this, and then having to ask about witless protection or the kid & i?

it must be said
stupid on purpose is still stupid.

Oh, For Fuck's Sake
Now I'm going to have Bobby Brown stuck in my head the rest of the day.

"There's so very much I despise about Moore's public persona, from his habitual abuse of cheap irony to the loathsome scene in Bowling For Columbine where he glibly scores points off a clearly senile, dementia-addled Charlton Heston"

they never once talked about the fact that he was 30-something and banging a 17 year old. ah, the 80's.

Yes
Quoting Leonard Cohen in the opening sentence. There should really be some other post about his shows. Just saw both nights in Los Angeles and it was a religious experience.

That's because the new novel (Bloods' a Rover) is the third in the trilogy of American Tabloid and The Cold Six-Thousand.

Caspian Tredwell-Owen
I accidentally read that to be "Captain Tredwell-Owen". I find the idea of a screenwriter going by the name "Captain" to be incredibly intriguing.

The plot doesn't really strain credulity as much as claiming that beautiful young indie types routinely kiss and fall in love with random corporate types twice their age.

I have to do it
I'm way late and no one will ever read this, but I've just gotta point it out. I just finished reading the book and came back here to re-read this article, and I have to point this out:

that was awesome
right up until halfway through the intro when firefox jacked my memory usage up to a gig and a half and crashed my entire system. don't let comedy writers right code, i suppose.

Good flick
I just finished watching it based on this review and dug it. I'm kind of depressed now, though, cause i was digging through the cast on imdb and discovered that the guy who played 'Spooky' killed himself in January. Yikes.

Jesse Eisenberg?
that's not andy samberg? huh.

make that three
april fool's day jokes that i would TOTALLY buy. the nin record featuring a collaboration between trent, al jourgensen, and fergie and the apline hero game from xbox. stupid april fool's day.

Hell yeah!
I say we got it!

well, shit.

"guaranteed-to-age-badly cultural references"
that is dreamworks animated features in a nutshell. they're pretty much unwatchable after about six months (assuming they were watchable to begin with)
