@avclub-d892cfee412f049ca3da7ada13bcf9ff:disqus He may not have been the John Brooke we wanted, but he was the John Brooke we deserved. In any case, Michael J Fox would have been awesome overkill for such a naff part.

Liked for choosing to focus on Eric Stoltz's presence. Anthropologists of the distant future will be able to use him to carbon date the movie to late-1994 with total precision.
Agreed on Stanwyck (as my pic kind of indicates) - IMO she's even better/more hilarious/more of a knockout in Ball of Fire. You could fry eggs on the chemistry between her and Cooper.
Ruth Hussey was so great in that movie "I've come for the body of Macaulay Connor." Her character got SO short-changed though - yay, she gets to be Stewart's second choice once Hepburn definitively shuts him down. Whoopee. She could have done better.
Awesome movie. The weird thing about it, for me at least, was that Powell and Lombard had just recently got divorced when they starred in this movie together. He apparently recommended her for the part, too - guy was a class act all the way. This was probably his best performance, in terms of serious acting,…
My only quibble was the dubious use of strata as a singular noun, when it ought to be stratum. But I'm sure he could defend it as an established usage in English so eloquently that I would have to surrender to his wisdom.
I am really concerned that Lucas Neff has accidentally ingested a thesaurus. Can we all go check our bookshelves real quick?
@Glom_of_Nit:disqus Ah bon? I read they met on the show: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wik… Mind you, that is Wikipedia, so it could be anything :D
The French dub of Friends is really outstandingly bad, French Ross sounds about eighty years old. It's weird as most French dubs I've seen are pretty good (Monk is possibly…
French Simpsons is actually pretty awesome (as is Italian, although basically all the other dubs I've heard suck), and has a pleasingly low rate of missing the point of jokes compared to some other shows (French Friends is an abomination). Agree that Marge's voice is a little offputting though - I don't know why in…
I agree with the sentiment and appreciate your witty act of reprisal. Fancied some Zane Grey-esque Western shenanigans, too.
"Crappy"? Look, I paid to see Hank Azaria's surprisingly hot bod and I got what I came for.
Relevant, nay integral part of any discussion of minorities on Friends: http://www.youtube.com/watc…
Weirdly, I thought this was the best of the last few episode. Parks and Rec doesn't always make me laugh out loud a lot, but this one had me chuckling semi-constantly. All the stories worked for me (unlike the unbalanced - though still enjoyable - installment we got last week), and there were so many tiny moments of…
As far as the 6 year old me was concerned, based on the video for Stand and Deliver, they were actual highwaymen.
My dad grew up in the early 80s (he was young when I was born, I'm not like 10 years old), so we grew up with all this. Adam and the Ants is the kind of music kids love - not in a disparaging sense, but the strong rhythms, the flamboyance and, of course, the yelling. Loved the yelling.
In all honesty, that Tyler Perry one didn't look so bad. The dialogue was pretty cliche and on-the-nose, but the performances looked solid (such is my state of ignorant bliss that I didn't even recognise Kim Kardashian) and it's always nice to see a movie with a non-white cast which has obviously had money and care…
"I shall make you my brother… my SOOOUL brother!"
Until you see that movie, you have NO idea just exactly how mad the world is.
Necessary link to the praiseworthy Will Ferrell/John C Reilly recreation - that's essentially what it is, not even a parody really, which makes it all the funnier.

This is a formula that cannot lose.
