Also, Steve James was robbed…yet again…from even a nomination for "Life Itself".

"The Dark Knight" was one of the main reasons the Academy pushed it from 5 to 8-10 Best Picture nominees in a year. It should have been doing that since at least 1990.

I think "Boyhood" and "Birdman" will battle it out for Best Original Screenplay, and yes, I do think the former will take it home.

Man, I can't wait to see that movie.

I was…kind of hoping Tyler Perry would pick up that fifth slot, that was for a while undetermined but leaning towards Duvall (and ended up going to him.) But out of the three movies of the Best Supporting Actor performances I've seen (Hawke, Norton and Simmons) I'm happy with any of them winning.

2014 was a great year for film, and it got less Best Picture nominees than 2011, which was the weakest year for film so far this decade. But like the article says…some surprises were pleasant, others less so.

"More than some of the shows that made it onto the main list, Scrubs feels like it’s actively engaging with The Simpsons’ impact on television comedy, pushing the limits of how far non-animated sitcoms can travel into the realm of fantasy."

MANTIS TOBOGGAN RETURNS! And he has an even more complex backstory than we thought! That alone makes up for any flaws here (a B is a fair grade.)

Not to bring this back to current-day films, but it kind of bothers me when I hear criticism for films with otherwise near-unanimous praise, like "Boyhood", simply because of the Internet Factor. The Internet was not around in 1974 for "The Godfather Part II," and it was just a sapling in 1994 when "The Shawshank

I was so weirded out by the fact that they actually DID Jam and Tammy as a couple, considering I jokingly suggested it as a future plotline in the comments section for an episode review last season.

Yeah, I feel you. I fucked up big in a platonic male friendship I treasured (which is not to say it's all my fault, or it's definitely gone for good - I hope it's not) and as much of me loves the song, there's a small part that can't help but think "god damnit" during every listen as well. And I hope you guys can

September births unite! Yes, I'll miss "Colbert", obviously, as I do now while rewatching old segments on his (retouched, so-much-easier-to-use-in-the-past) website, but I can't wait for his "Late Show".

But then the "Selma" backlash will begin, because it's a drama about recent American history that fits in well with this time period. Can't win.

Oh man. Has anyone on this page made a "You know who else didn't like intellectuals? Hitler!" on this page yet and compared it to the modern-day American political zeitgeist…or, to put it simpler, the Tea Party?

Like I just said on my FB, I do not look forward to the inevitable backlash if "Boyhood" wins Best Picture on Oscar night.

Trees white and green turn yellow, autumn caught 'em, see, autumn leaves must fall down…

Hey, just as I got my first Sufjan album, "The Age of Adz".

Really? "bigmuscles"?

Jake giving Amy a sponge bath, hmm? I like that idea…
