The only episode that I didn't see or read about a reference to was "The Entire History of You." I still wasn't big on it, if only because I'm a purist about anthologies and think linking the different stories together is a road to madness.

Someone took the title of Truffaut's "Shoot the Piano Player" a little too literally…

I was expecting PDFs of the comics, and am kind of disappointed that they're all JPGs and such of the pages. (And I have no idea what SFV is or what programs use it.) Still, I guess I could do it myself.

Yes, all movies are manipulative. The key to doing it well is a degree of subtlety; when you can feel the film manipulating you, then it loses its effectiveness. "Slumdog" was like, "Watch as this kid literally swims through shit, then witnesses all these horrible events! Doesn't that make you feel disturbed? Huh?

Oh, boy. I have so many choices…

I wonder how it would have played if the hit man got curious, decided the rule about not looking in the bag was meant to be taken literally, and started shaking and feeling it to try and figure it out with his other senses.

At first, I thought you were saying movies about faith made by nonreligious filmmakers, and I thought, "The obligatory foreign film could be 'The Gospel According to St. Matthew.'"

Of the three Hulot films I've seen ("Mon. Hulot's Holiday," this and "Trafic"), I've liked this one the best.

I've seen a number…

That sucks. The few times I watched it, and the bits and pieces I've seen on YouTube were pretty good.

Anybody else go to the "Starship Troopers" RiffTrax Live event in August? I think it was their best event yet (although that choice does tend to change from year to year).

I'd bet that the reasons they're keeping it on are:
A: It's a half-season show, so airing all the episodes can't hurt them too much for too long; and/or
B: They're contractually obligated to air every episode. For some reason, Jerry Bruckheimer's involvement being trumpeted in the ads makes me lean towards this.

Incidentally, there was a time when my dad, who recently was forced to retire due to circumstances too depressing and personal to go into here and now watches TV all day, would watch "Family Feud" whenever it was on the Game Show Network. I saw nonstop ads for "The Chase" during these viewings, and even though I saw

Whenever nothing better is on around here, my dad will put on the "Wheel"/"Jeopardy" block on one of our local channels. The problem is that we have a DVR that will record only two shows at a time, and if at 8 o'clock, there are two shows that are going to record, there's a good chance we won't find out the answer to

You're not writing to Penthouse?

The one great exception is, of course, Turner Classic Movies. Turn it on, chances are good they'll be showing a movie older than your parents.

I actually took a picture one time when the guide showed that IFC was showing "The Spongebob Squarepants Movie." Independent film, everyone!

Which BYUtv show is it? "Granite Flats," or something else?

Hmm, guess I've been spoiled by my local art theaters. They're small, but if an unrated movie comes along, or an NC-17 even, they'll show it if they think an audience will come. (As in "pay money to see it," not the other way.)
