Dude, you've got to get on the chili train. It's cheap, practically cooks itself, and it's easy to modify for people with finicky dietary needs and preferences. And you can put it in a bread bowl.

So far I've just done garlic, cumin, and jalapenos, with the occasional splash of lager, red wine, or homemade blackberry wine (the last wasn't so great, but the wine was pretty meh). The leftovers become a nice chili pasta casserole.
