This is what I keep telling people. This was a low-turnout election. Clinton won the popular vote by a huge margin, and if she turns out an objectively small number of Obama voters who stayed home in the right places, she wins. I suspect that pandering to the smallish number of voters who switched teams would only

I'm aware of the literature on this subject. I am willing to bet if you could somehow design a study of why white evangelicals still turned out in huge numbers for Trump, though, despite his unrepentant immorality, this would be the reason. And without the white evangelicals, the Republicans can't win.

I honestly think that anyone who doesn't know a lot of evangelicals is underestimating the degree to which a lot of them sucked it up and voted for Trump because he said he'd nominate anti-abortion judges. I've had multiple educated professional people tell me flat out that was how they made their decision.

…insert periodic reminder of just how prescient Network really is.

Things I am proud of myself for: one of my dissertation chapters goes out of its way to quote some people ripping on McMansions in the introduction, just for fun. Of course, the chapter itself has a pretty pro-suburbia tone, which is probably not a popular opinion.

He pretty clearly doesn't get the implications of what Facebook does, because I'm not sure he actually understands people. That quote of his from… a Reddit AMA, I think? about how he'd like to be able to come up with physics-like laws to characterize human behavior pretty much sums it up.

My on-campus job was tutoring athletes at an ACC school about a decade ago when I was in college. Not ALL of the football players were dumb or anything, but more of them required more help than any other team, including basketball, the most popular sport at our school and the one in which we had the most success.

I know :(

I am acquainted with a former ambassador to Micronesia and am related by marriage to a person who has been acting ambassador, so this is not news to me! Weird life trivia.

…that thing where newly reformed bands sound like tribute band versions of themselves

Yeah, this one hit pretty close to home. Both of the bands I was in when I lived in DC played here, and I saw many shows here, going back to when they first started having rock shows c. 2008ish. Friends' bands still play here. I've taken dates here. I was aware of the "conspiracy theory" before this happened, and I'm

That's MPD for you!

I definitely played and attended my share of shows at places like this. I actually felt sick when I first read this story, like to the point where I almost threw up. Just awful. Thoughts and prayers for everyone and their families.

Second perhaps only to Nada Surf as far as 90s pop-rock bands that should have had way more hits.

CHYECK CHYECK CHYECK OL NAYHT LAWNG

He's open that he has had relationships with men, it's not some secret.

I think you need a multi-axis understanding of political "space" to really interpret where they were. Jefferson had some libertarian leanings but also oversaw one of the worst trade policy initiatives in American history, and not one that feels very "liberal". Hamilton favored the strong central government that

Uh-huh. Either you're on the left and you're participating in the circular firing squad that we get into every time an election goes poorly, or you're on the right and I'm not that interested in what you think about what the left should do.
