so why the secrecy? I mean the fact that it's an alien isn't incredibly difficult to figure out

I mean, there may be a good reason not to spoil it, if so tell us why. Otherwise, it just seems pointless.

The mysterious monster (and why the hell does it have to be so mysterious?)
is the nature of the alien/govt experiment/rampagin robot/ cloverfield jr. really such that any kind of reveal would spoil the movie?
