That's funny, Zardoz, because it's so true…
Have fun everyone!
Friends in from out of town Monday night so I won't be able to make it, but hope it's a blast.
You're not alone - someone else mentioned "Songs From The Second Floor" earlier in comments.
Century of the Self
Power of Nightmares
Man on a Wire
Lake of Fire
The Corporation
To Be and To Have
Yep, one of my favorites of this past decade. It's one of the few films I can think of in which the director apes someone else's style and aesthetic (Terrence Malick's, in this case) but is able to make it work for the film and not seem like theft.
Yep, one of the decade's best.
@TomWaits (and anyone else who wants to be impressed by Bolano):
I wish I had seen the conversation between Saunders and Foer.
Unless I'm wrong, these appear to be Todd VanDerWerff's choices rather than a group effort.
I almost always finish books or movies, even if I'm bored or hate them. It's not so I can bitch, it's because there's the hope that maybe there will be some improvement towards the end.
I don't think enough people have read 2666 yet. I you look in the comments, even the Bolano fans haven't gotten to it yet.
TomWaits -
Love "Atonement." I think it's a great novel.
I know it's heresy, but I thought the long middle section of "The Savage Detectives" should have been edited. However, it ends beautifully and it is a great novel.
Second Half of Decade
Interesting that most of the fiction listed is from the first half of the decade. Of the 20 novels chosen, only six are from 2005 -2009 and there's a cluster of books from 2000-2002.
Agreed. An excellent comic.
Tezuka's Buddha
I would have included this in The Archives section, if not the main list.
"This generation needs a Bill Watterson."
Wow. If you truly believe this, then I feel very sorry for you.
