Yeah, the mechanics work out. They were already on the island, in the game, for the day zero stuff. So the show had to put them into tribes after a first act, so it couldn't just start them off as different tribes. But it couldn't go random, since they needed to A) split up all the pairs, and B) equalize the sexes.
