i don't know, i think it depends on who you're following/who's following you. i tend to see very little crap coming across my dash and that's because i try to be careful about who i follow. plus it's super easy to blacklist tags you'd rather not see at all.
my whole point is that i really love tumblr and it's not so

"I don't see the extreme sexism in Supernatural."
"And they've had hot girls show up so the dean can fuck something."
alrighty then

i'm miffed because i thought the show was moving past some of it's more rigid stereotyping and it's generally treatment of the ladies has steadily improved. as someone mentioned in another comment, there isn't nearly as many "bitchs" being tossed about willy nilly.
this episode just felt like two giant steps back.

oh my goodness

nah, i'll only ask about your penis if you're being a dick about the way in which you defend the episode.

she was one of the campbells. she told dean he "delicate features for a hunter."

good point. man, i wish we could move past it, though.(not the point but the action on the show hehe)

i like the cut of your jib, aklab. how's about you and i get outta here.

and i disagree.
such is life.

we were really starting to get somewhere with ellen and jo.
i'm aware of the fact that i keep bringing them up because i'm still pissed about their death. in my opinion their death largely occurred to create more manpain.
they deserved better.

this season has been the best/most improved when it comes to gender issues, in my opinion at least.

if you read my comment you'll see that the last three characters mentioned were my examples of improved female characters—or females who could stand-a-lone as actual characters without relying too heavily on a response from sam/dean/another man. they couldn't be replaced by a sexy lamp, if you will.

i agree that it is a more complex issue.
and like i mention in a comment elsewhere it does seem like the show is aware of this issue and that they're getting better at it.
but lisa, jo, ellen—if you subtract what we know of their character or the aspects of their character that is dependent on sam or dean(or another

i mean, yeah, it does to the same thing with a lot of the side characters. but if you simply take a look at the characters who are continually brought back or those that remain alive entirely there are more males than females. of those males that return they tend to be more fully developed characters—kevin, crowley,

i really like you and i thought you should know that

precisely. it's a well-established trope and it has less to do with what the female character actually does and more to do with why she does it and whether or not she would even exist outside of that action. i'm kind of surprised i even have to explain this at all.

no and no

yeah, that's very true. i was so psyched for her to take over because i really loved most of her episodes.

it doesn't.

sera gamble was an excellent writer, imo but not so great at the showrunning.
